Description
Simply smothered with a smoke of lavender-blue flowers, the silvery clumps of Nepeta 'Junior Walker' are a must for the midsummer garden. Bred from the ever-popular Nepeta 'Walker's Low', this diminutive new variety would look great spilling over the edge of paths to release a minty scent as you pass by, or popped into raised planters around garden seating for a striking, ultra-modern scheme. The low height also makes it ideal for underplanting taller perennials—it would really complement the darker blue of Salvia 'Caradonna'.
Once established, Nepeta 'Junior Walker' (garden catmint) are drought-tolerant, so the sturdy Nepeta × faassenii 'Junior Walker' would be right at home in a gravel garden scheme. With its shorter stems, it would do well in coastal and exposed locations too, unharmed by strong winds. Another plus is that Nepeta 'Junior Walker' is been bred as a sterile variety, meaning it doesn't self-seed so it won't get carried away.

Soak your Nepeta 'Junior Walker' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Garden catmint" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
